    Large-Scale Agile Frameworks: A Comparative Review

    This study aims to identify and systematically compare the main large-scale agile frameworks that companies can adopt to manage the work of large-scale and distributed teams. Through this, companies can more consciously perform a better-informed decision on the choice of the framework that best fits the practices and challenges of their organizations. This work employs a qualitative approach supported by an exploratory analysis that identifies and explores the processes of migration to a large-scale agile. In the first phase, fifteen assessment criteria for scaling agile are discussed. In a second phase, these criteria are used to perform a comparative analysis of six large-scale agile frameworks (i.e., DAD, LeSS, Nexus, SAFe, Scrum at Scale, and Spotify). The findings reveal there isn't a dominant large-scale agile framework in all dimensions. However, it is possible to identify frameworks like Nexus and Spotify that target smaller teams and offer low technical complexity. These frameworks easily accommodate changes, while there are other frameworks like SAFe and DAD that offer high levels of scalability but require more demanding and deep efforts in changing work processes in an organization

    Management 3.0: A Systematic Literature Review and Research Agenda

    Management 3.0 is a new concept that intends to revolutionize the way managers and leaders act within companies to offer a more happy, collaborative, and productive work environment. This paper aims to analyze the management 3.0 phenomenon and establish a research agenda in the field. A systematic review was conducted considering 215 published studies in the field between 2010 and 2019. The findings reveal that management 3.0 is an emerging area and one that has grown in 2019 and involves multidisciplinary research teams from management, leadership, information technology, and psychology

    BUSINESS STRATEGY AND UPGRADING IN GLOBAL VALUE CHAINS: A MULTIPLE CASE STUDY IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY FIRMS OF BRAZILIAN ORIGIN

    The issue of upgrading in Global Value Chains (GVCs) has been treated in the literature, but there are still gaps to be filled in. One issue that still needs further investigation is the relation of business strategy and evolution of firms in GVCs, known as upgrading in the literature. In this paper, we have the objective of examining the occurrence and quality of upgrading in internationalized Information Technology (IT) firms of Brazilian origin. We employed the multiple case study method researching eight IT firms to study the issue. Different from what is expected, facts presented in the paper imply that although GVCs and upgrading are confirmed as useful concepts, not all the findings the literature presents converge with what this research brings. As for example, results don’t converge with what was found in the literature for clothing. In other results, we confirmed what is in the literature. Most notably, having the evolution in the chain blocked by clients and also competitive marginalization. As any research, this one has limitations, which we list at the end of the manuscript

    Adoption of Large-Scale Scrum Practices through the Use of Management 3.0

    Software engineering companies have progressively incorporated agile project management methodologies. Initially, this migration occurred mostly in the context of startups, but in recent years it has also sparked interest from other companies with larger and more geographically dispersed teams. One of the frameworks used for large-scale agile implementation is the LeSS framework. This study seeks to explore how Management 3.0 principles can be applied in the context of the ten practices proposed in the LeSS framework. To this end, a qualitative research methodology based on four case studies is used to identify and explore the role of Management 3.0 in software management and development processes that adopt this agile paradigm. The findings show that the principles of Management 3.0 are relevant to the implementation of the LeSS framework practices, especially in fostering team values and personal values; however, distinct principles between the two paradigms are also identified, namely the greater rigidity of processes advocated in the LeSS framework and a greater focus on process automation

    Triple Helix influence on competitiveness factors: Comparison between wine clusters in Brazil and Chile

    The performance of clusters has been linked in several studies to their historical and geographical contexts as well as to the drivers that shape the competitive strength of nations. Among these drivers, the human factor and universities play a key role in the competitiveness of nations, as well as that of industries, regions, and firms. In the new knowledge economy, the Triple Helix model is a mechanism of coordination that brings together government, industry and universities. The main objective of this paper is to analyze the Triple Helix influence on the competitiveness factors of clusters as proposed by Zaccarelli, Telles, Siqueira, Boaventura, and Donnaire (2008). An analysis has been performed to verify how the Triple Helix axes influence the competitiveness factors of wine clusters by comparing the Chilean Valle del Maule to the Brazilian Serra Gaucha. The theoretical framework is that of the Triple Helix, coupled to Zaccarelli et al.’s (2008) model. The method employed was the multiple case study and data was collected from secondary sources. The main results indicate that only four out of Zaccarelli et al.’s (2008) eleven model factors of competitiveness are influenced by the three axes of the Triple Helix. The main contribution of this paper is to bring together the Triple Helix and competitiveness. There are nevertheless analytical and methodological constraints

    Apresentamos caso de capsulorrexe em duplo anel em paciente feminina de 81 anos. O espécime cirúrgico foi submetido a estudo anatomopatológico que evidenciou os achados típicos da capsulorrexe em duplo anel. Comentamos a possível relação com a exfoliação capsular verdadeira. Salientamos que é possível realizar a cirurgia com bom resultado mesmo que o duplo anel não seja completo - como no caso apresentado - , porém desde que os folhetos capsulares estejam fundidos de forma contínua
